Enugu State youth leader and SSA to the governor on youth develooment and enterprenureship Dr. Emeka Asogwa expresses his fellings over the corona virus outbreak in Nigeria and the Nigeria government.

I AM DISTURBED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF MY GENERATION IN NIGERIA!

I pray this Coronavirus don't spread in my country. Though we have been used to alot of other viruses in Nigeria, but this Coronavirus is fearful. But how come it decided to hit Abuja too early? Our leaders must wake up and rebuild this nation or we may all be coronized, though not praying for this type of 'coro' . Corona leadership has kept Nigeria where we are. Painful to observe that Nigeria is governed by many incompetent set of politicians, and they hate to allow intelligent persons takeover power. A country where the youth only have today but likely no future, as we are till today governed by our forefathers, I am worried that we may wake up tomorrow to realize our future has since been spent. For now, I think all States should control interstate movements to monitor the spread of this most pathetic Coronavirus. But my write-up today is not on Coronavirus.

I  was in my political Ward one hot afternoon preparing to receive the LG Campaign team of my party PDP when a visibly disturbed mother approached me with a paper in her hand. According to her, she left her sick bed to see that Emeka NwaNsukka she used to listen to on Radio Nigeria Voice FM Nsukka and she was directed to me. She truly appeared disturbed, just like I am also disturbed about Nigeria.

The Ehalumona mother had come to my NKPUNANO ward to cry to me to help her son who made First Class result from UNN to get a job. I didn't mean any other small university but the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Her son had spent years pursuing his dream of graduating with the best result, thinking wholeheartedly that excellent result would help him get a good job and help his ageing parents, after school.

But the reverse has become the case in a country called Nigeria where academic results no more determine job employment nor financial freedom. Privileged political fathers who enjoyed free education and good job opportunities in their youthful days are now in their old age helping the youth of my generation to enjoy same privileges as they now still occupy the political offices they occupied as youth leaders in their own time. Buhari is easier example. He was Nigerian President as youth and still our president at old age. Many senators and House of Reps members today were still occupying same mouthwatering political positions about 20years ago. If they are not occupying, then their children must be there to represent them. Chai, my generation of young people is truly assailed with stupendous challenge.

But our youth will not hear! Our parents would not hear too. The academic system today now produces helpless and weak graduates. Any graduate who refuses to accept the need for personal development in leadership, modern technologies, skill development, and social education may certainly be crippled by the society where the bad rule the good. A country where the illiterates and unsound politicians govern the best brains will continue to go backward. The type of leaders we have today in the polity would not care to empower you except there are modern skills or capabilities you have that they need. Many politicians have no vision for human capital development, so how would they reproduce next generation of leaders except errand boys and party girls. I was just informed how a politician who was not a lawyer was 'elected' the legal adviser to a political organisation. Ndi amaobi!

MORE NEWS I am very disturbed about this country!

A country where thuggery is celebrated than excellence and wheelbarrow and shovels are deployed as tools for empowerment has deeply troubled my soul. The good men must speak out. Just like the biblical Queen Esther, if we perish we perish. Let all Nigerian youth and students decide to challenge and say NO to any wicked politicians who would pay or lure them to become thugs in future elections, starting from 2023. Many say they wonder how politics has not changed me. The reason is simple. I have nothing to lose if I leave politics tomorrow. It is not akaoru. But my youth empowerment mandate is a lifetime ministry.

Leaders like Governor Ifeanyichukwu Ugwuanyi should be supported as part of his core political mandate now is to raise and handover political power to the next generation of leaders. Enugu has handed over the LG system to  the youth constituency. A huge number of them now as political players in my state. We must partner all willing stakeholders to help my generation of young people fullfil their own destinies. Those who have enjoyed their yesterdays should see leadership as a race so as to be ready to handover the batton of leadership.

I recommend that any political aspirant without a good track record of human capital development should not be allowed to get into political office. Money politics has made Not Too Young To Run law weak and almost unfruitful. It should be Not Too Young To Lead as running without money would always face pathetic challenges at the party primary levels where the moneybags decide the political destinies of all. Among many young men who ran for primaries for 2019 elections, how many of them today had tickets except those with strong godfathers and deep pockets.

MORE NEWS I am disturbed about my country!

Worst cause of my worry is that the youth who have been crippled over the years by the educational system of this country and deceived by the political class have almost refused to fight for themselves through a total embrace of youth entrepreneurship, personal development and skill development. Develop contemporary skills. Get a skill in agriculture, digital technologies like (blockchain & forex trading), public speaking, media, social entrepreneurship etc to 'jump and pass' this trap of slavery that this country has set for my generation. Let the youth build capacity that makes them give value addition in their various spheres of influence. It is now clear that many of these men are not ready to handover power to my generation of leaders. So we will certainly among other tools need deep financial pockets to convince them in 2023.

I am disturbed about my country!
